Dodge Charger | Jay Malone CDJR Hutchinson MN

The Dodge Charger is the most fundamentally different muscle car the brand has ever built — the only nameplate in America offering both a gas-powered straight-six and a fully electric drivetrain on the same widebody platform. The Charger SIXPACK uses the new 3.0L Hurricane Twin-Turbo Inline-Six engine in either 420 or 550 horsepower form. The Charger Daytona goes fully electric with up to 670 horsepower from a dual-motor AWD setup. Same legendary Charger silhouette, same standard all-wheel drive with selectable rear-wheel drive mode, two completely different ownership experiences.

What engines does the Dodge Charger offer?
The current Charger lineup offers two distinct powertrain families. The 3.0L Hurricane Twin-Turbo Inline-Six (badged as “SIXPACK”) is the gas engine that replaces the legendary HEMI V8 — available in 420-horsepower Standard Output form on the R/T and 550-horsepower High Output form on the Scat Pack. The Hurricane HO actually makes 65 more horsepower than the 6.4L 392 V8 it replaces, with full peak torque available at just 2,500 rpm. Every gas Charger pairs the engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The Charger Daytona goes fully electric with a 400-volt dual-motor architecture. The Daytona R/T BEV produces 536 horsepower, and the Daytona Scat Pack BEV pushes 670 horsepower with 627 lb-ft of torque — making it the most powerful production muscle car Dodge has ever built. The Daytona uses a 100.5 kWh battery pack and supports DC fast-charging up to 183 kW. There is no manual transmission, no HEMI V8, and no diesel option in the current Charger lineup — the lineup is fully gas-or-electric for 2026.
Is the new Dodge Charger gas or electric?
Both. The 2026 Charger is the only muscle car in America offered with both a gas engine (SIXPACK) and a fully electric drivetrain (Daytona) on the same body and chassis. Same widebody stance, same 121-inch wheelbase, same standard all-wheel drive that can switch to rear-wheel drive at the push of a button — the difference is what’s under the hood. This is genuinely the most important question for any Charger shopper, and our 2026 Charger gas vs electric breakdown walks through the case for each, real cost-of-ownership numbers, and how to pick the right one for central Minnesota.
What’s the difference between R/T and Scat Pack?
The R/T and Scat Pack are two power levels at two price points within both the SIXPACK gas and Daytona EV families. The R/T is the more accessible, daily-driver-friendly tune. The Scat Pack is the maximum-output performance flagship within its powertrain family. On the gas SIXPACK side, R/T makes 420 hp and Scat Pack makes 550 hp — a 130-horsepower gap for roughly $5,000 more in MSRP. On the Daytona EV side, the R/T BEV makes 536 hp and the Scat Pack BEV makes 670 hp. Our R/T vs Scat Pack comparison walks through every difference including standard equipment, performance, Brembo brake availability, and which one makes more sense for the way you actually drive.
How does the Hurricane SIXPACK compare to the HEMI V8 it replaces?
This is the question we get asked most often at the dealership. The honest answer: the Hurricane SIXPACK is faster and more efficient than the V8 it replaces, but loses the V8 exhaust note. The Hurricane HO at 550 hp makes 65 more horsepower than the 6.4L 392 V8 and runs the quarter-mile 0.6 seconds quicker. The Hurricane SO at 420 hp makes 50 more horsepower than the 5.7L HEMI R/T it replaces, with 18.5% more torque, and beats it to 60 mph by half a second. The trade-off is the sound — the inline-six is mechanical and immediate but doesn’t deliver the iconic V8 rumble. Our full Hurricane SIXPACK engine guide covers the technical details, comparisons to the outgoing HEMI, and what the engine actually feels like to drive.
How far does the Charger Daytona go on a charge?
The 2026 Charger Daytona’s EPA-estimated range varies by configuration. The base Daytona Scat Pack BEV gets approximately 241 miles of range per full charge; opting for the Track Package drops range to 223 miles due to wider tires and a more aggressive performance tune. The Daytona R/T BEV (factory-order configuration) is rated higher, at approximately 295 miles, thanks to its lower 536-horsepower tune. The Daytona uses a 100.5 kWh battery pack (93.9 kWh usable), supports DC fast charging up to 183 kW (about 32 minutes from 5% to 80% on a 350-kW charger), and charges at up to 11 kW on a Level 2 home charger. Our central Minnesota Daytona range and charging guide covers real-world cold-weather range and home-charging recommendations.
Is the 2026 Charger a coupe or a sedan?
Both. The 2026 Charger is offered as a 2-door coupe and a 4-door sedan across both powertrain families. This makes the SIXPACK 4-door Charger the world’s only four-door muscle car in production. The 4-door sedan adds $2,000 to the MSRP over the equivalent 2-door coupe and includes a clever hidden hatchback design with a rear liftgate and folding rear seats. The 2-door coupe arrived first in the model year rollout, with the 4-door versions of certain trims phasing in through 2026. Our coupe vs sedan comparison walks through the differences in cargo, rear-seat usability, and which body style fits which buyer.
Why buy a Dodge Charger from Jay Malone CDJR?

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there still a HEMI V8 in the Dodge Charger?
No. For 2026, the Charger lineup is fully transitioned to the 3.0L Hurricane Twin-Turbo Inline-Six (gas) and the dual-motor Daytona BEV (electric). The 5.7L and 6.4L HEMI V8s have been retired from the Charger. The Hurricane HO at 550 horsepower makes more power than the outgoing 6.4L 392 V8, but the V8 exhaust note is gone.
Does the 2026 Charger come with a manual transmission?
No. Every gas SIXPACK Charger uses the 8-speed automatic transmission. The Daytona EV uses a single-speed gearbox per motor. There’s no manual transmission offered in the 2026 Charger lineup.
Is the Dodge Charger AWD or RWD?
Both. Every 2026 Charger comes standard with all-wheel drive, but the SIXPACK gas models include a front-axle disconnect feature that lets you switch to rear-wheel drive at the push of a button — perfect for burnouts, drifting, or just classic muscle car driving feel. The Daytona BEV also lets you send power to just the rear motor for similar RWD behavior.
How fast is the Dodge Charger Daytona?
The Daytona Scat Pack BEV is the quickest production Charger ever — 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds and a quarter-mile in approximately 11.6 seconds. The instant torque from the dual electric motors makes it noticeably quicker than the SIXPACK Scat Pack gas model (3.9 seconds to 60 mph), even though the SIXPACK is no slouch.
Can the Charger Daytona handle Minnesota winters?
Yes, with realistic expectations. Standard AWD on all trims handles snow well. The Daytona’s lithium-ion battery loses range in deep cold — expect approximately 15-30% range reduction at sub-zero temperatures, which is normal for EVs. Home charging in a garage helps preserve range and keeps the battery warm. Most central Minnesota Daytona owners use it as a daily driver year-round without major issues, but it works best when paired with home charging.
