Stellantis (FCA US) has issued a recall covering more than one million 2021-2025 Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator vehicles due to a potential fire risk related to the power steering system. What Is Being Recalled
The recall covers approximately 1,076,999 vehicles in the United States — about 787,887 Jeep Wranglers and 289,112 Jeep Gladiators — from the 2021 through 2025 model years. All powertrain types are potentially included.

What's Actually Wrong With The Vehicle
The issue involves the electrical connector for the electric hydraulic power steering pump. On affected vehicles, this connector may have been manufactured slightly outside of specification, which can result in a loose or high-resistance electrical connection. Over time, that loose connection can generate enough heat to melt the connector and, in rare cases, ignite nearby combustible materials — potentially leading to a vehicle fire.
The most important thing to understand about this particular recall: because the issue is electrical, a fire can start even when the vehicle is parked and the ignition is off. That's why federal regulators are urging owners to park outside and away from structures until the repair is done. This isn't an issue that only happens while you're driving.
How Serious Is The Risk?
We want to give you an honest, balanced picture here — not minimize it, and not overstate it. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has stated it is aware of 51 fires and one injury likely related to this defect. At the same time, Stellantis estimates that only about 0.1% of the recalled vehicles — roughly 1 in 1,000 — actually carry the active defect.
So the practical reality is this: the vast majority of recalled Wranglers and Gladiators will never experience a problem. But because there's no way for an owner to know in advance whether their specific vehicle is one of the affected ones, and because the consequence is a fire, the guidance is to treat every recalled vehicle with caution until it's repaired. Park outside, away from your home, garage, and other vehicles.

Three Steps To Take Today
- Check if your vehicle is affected. Go to NHTSA.gov and enter your 17-digit VIN under recall number 26V-363, or check Mopar.com under recall 21D. VIN lookup for this recall is available now.
- If your vehicle is affected, park it outside. Keep it away from your house, garage, other vehicles, and any structure until the repair is completed. This is the single most important precaution.
- Watch for your official notification. Stellantis is mailing owner notification letters beginning July 9, 2026. The letter will tell you when the repair is available and how to schedule it.
What The Repair Involves
Depending on the specific vehicle, the repair may involve inspecting and, if necessary, replacing the power steering pump wiring harness and/or the electric hydraulic power steering pump itself. The repair is completely free of charge — that's federal law for safety recalls. You will never pay anything for a recall repair.
One important note about timing: this is an advance notice recall. That means Stellantis is notifying owners that the defect exists before the repair remedy is ready — which is required so owners can take the park-outside precaution as soon as possible. The repair is not available yet. You will receive a first letter beginning July 9 telling you about the recall and the precautions to take, and then a second notification later once the remedy is ready, telling you to schedule your repair.
