What Recall 67A is and why Cummins is running it

Cummins Emissions Recall 67A is a software update for 2013-2018 Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 pickup trucks equipped with the 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel. The update reprograms the engine control module to adjust the DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) dosing rate under certain driving conditions. The goal is to reduce tailpipe NOx emissions to bring the affected trucks into compliance with the emissions standards they were originally certified to.

The recall exists because of a settlement between Cummins, the U.S. Department of Justice, the EPA, and the California Air Resources Board. In 2024, Cummins agreed to a $1.675 billion settlement over emissions defeat devices installed on approximately 630,000 model year 2013-2019 Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks. Recall 67A is the fix for the 2013-2018 portion of that population. Model year 2019 vehicles were addressed under a separate recall campaign. It applies to trucks with the Cummins 6.7L Turbo Diesel engine (sales code ETK) paired with the G65 manual transmission, 68RFE automatic, or Aisin AS69RC automatic.

What the update does mechanically: the engine control module tells the DEF injection system to dose more DEF into the exhaust stream under certain load and temperature conditions. This lets the SCR (selective catalytic reduction) catalyst break down more NOx before it leaves the tailpipe. No hardware changes, no parts installed, no adjustments to the fuel injection or turbo control that would affect power or drivability. The whole process is software.

The $500 Mastercard and the warranty extension

There are two distinct benefits for completing Recall 67A. They’re easy to confuse. Both apply to Minnesota drivers.

The $500 prepaid Mastercard (time-limited)

Cummins is offering a $500 prepaid Mastercard to eligible owners who complete Recall 67A between June 1, 2026 and July 31, 2026. To receive the card, you have to submit a claim on CumminsRecall.com by August 21, 2026 with proof of the completed service. The program is open to legal residents of all 50 U.S. states plus DC, including Minnesota. You can submit claims for up to 20 unique VINs per person, which matters if you own a small fleet or a family with multiple eligible Ram HD trucks.

Eligible owners are also entered into a Cummins-run sweepstakes for a Miami trip in November 2026 (five winners; program terms and eligibility rules apply). The sweepstakes portion is a bonus, not the main incentive.

The extended emissions warranty (permanent, arguably the bigger deal)

When you complete Recall 67A, your truck also becomes eligible for a Special Extended Warranty that adds up to 10 additional years of coverage on emissions components. This warranty is permanent for your truck once the recall is completed. It doesn’t expire when the $500 window closes on July 31.

For any Cummins owner who plans to keep their truck long-term, this warranty coverage is worth significantly more than the $500 in prepaid Mastercard. Emissions component repairs on a 6.7L Cummins can run into thousands of dollars — DEF injectors, NOx sensors, SCR catalysts, EGR components. The extended warranty covers a substantial portion of those parts and labor for a decade beyond the original coverage. That’s the piece of this offer we think most owners underestimate.

What if I have issues after the recall?

Honest read: a small percentage of trucks have needed follow-up work after Recall 67A completion. The typical patterns owners have reported nationally: check engine lights within the first 500-1,500 miles, DEF system fault codes, and occasional issues with DEF injectors or NOx sensors that show up after the update reveals a marginal component.

Most of that follow-up work falls under the recall’s extended emissions warranty coverage — that’s the specific reason the warranty extension exists.
